Dockside Health and Rehab Center 

In December 2016 Smith/Packett was awarded a Certificate of Public Need for 30 additional skilled nursing beds at Dockside Health and Rehab Center located in Middlesex County, Virginia, by the State of Virginia’s Department of Certificate of Public Need. Smith/Packett was awarded the beds after participating in a lengthy competitive application process that included public hearings with the State. The successful application required coordination with both local and state government and received overwhelming community support from Middlesex County and beyond. Smith/Packett’s application was approved in part due to the ability of Smith/Packett and Saber Healthcare Group, the facility’s operator, to deliver projects that provide a high level of patient care and also have a track record of being cost-efficient.

The addition of 30 skilled nursing beds, which will be located in a new purpose-built wing scheduled to be completed in 2018, allows the residents of Middlesex County increased access to quality skilled care. The 30-bed addition follows a multi-million dollar renovation of the existing facility that was completed in 2016. Smith/Packett was contacted by the previous owner to purchase Dockside (formerly Mizpah Healthcare Center), one of the first nursing homes in the state of Virginia dedicated to the care of seniors, due to Smith/Packett’s proven track record of performance.
